Norma had a thing to say about PC desktop icons. She referred to the animation going around that has the icons battling one another, but my focus is different.
I hate desktop icons. I love them, too. I love the convenience of them. I hate that they're there, cluttering my, well, my desktop.
As knowledgeable as I can be concerning things computer, one thing I did NOT know about Windows XP (and it may be present in other flavors of Windows, but I never paid attention), is the handy little way of hiding all the icons while still making them accessible.
On the task bar, right-click and select toolbars --> Desktop. That creates a task bar containing whatever's on your desktop. Next, on the desktop, right click and select Arrange Icons By then uncheck the Show Desktop Icons item.
Cool? Or wot?

Way cool! I've got oodles of desktop icons which I keep arranged by grouping them and positioning them according to use around the screen. Often used weblinks at the top, personal folders to the right, and so on. This way I can group them in folders to make them easy to find in the list AND access them while having a screen open covering the desktop. I'm learning all kinds of new tricks this month. Thanks!
