Sensible Politicians. How refreshing!

Poasted by gekko at 11:36 AM and filed under "Politik Inkorrecta"

It's rare to find a politician who will side with sense and sensibility. I don't care which party you're talking about.

Rep. Joe Donnelly, D-Granger, and Rep. Brad Ellsworth, D-Evansville, were among 14 Democrats who sided with most Republicans in opposing a bill that adds sexual orientation, gender identity and disability to federal hate crimes laws and permits the federal government to help state and local governments prosecute hate crimes.

Here's the deal. Laws exist to prohibit people from harming others irrespective of the reasons for the harm. If I want to beat you up because I like beating people up, and I beat you up, I'm commiting a crime and should be punished for it. If I want to beat you up because you're gay, and I beat you up, I am commiting the same crime and I should be punished for it. I've fucking beat you up, fuck sake.

Reading my mind, making it worse for me if you are "special" when I beat you up is a heinous nanny-state Big Brother load of bull crap.

Any politicians who oppose hate crime laws and the expansion thereof should be applauded. Those who break free of the moo-cow mindset of their party affiliation, especially the Nanny-State Loving Dems should be given a fuckin' parade. God Bless the 14 Dems.

Yeah, those Klansmen are all the time violating the burn ban 'round these parts. Bastards all - I hope the judge makes 'em pick up trash for three consecutive Saturdays!

As a heterosexual white man, I have to wonder if the police would treat it as a hate crime if I was assaulted by a gay black man. I really have to doubt it. Hate crime legislation = pandering to special interests.

Hate crime legislation = pandering to special interests.

Yup. I'm special. Okay, granted, people who look like me haven't suffered the way people who look like Obama have suffered. My gay friend Peter is more likely to be beat up than I am.

But if someone hurts me because they hate me, they get the regular treatment. If someone hurts Peter or Obama's second cousin on his mother's third aunt's side because they hate her, then all of a sudden the hurt is MORE heinous and deserves MORE punishment.

That's not equality. That's not righting wrongs. That's not even really discouraging things. People hate because they hate. They'll ignore consequences because they're stupid. They'll take out their anger and hatred irrespective of whether they do a few hours in a local hoosgow or they have to go spend years in a medium security pen.

Make the punishment the same: if it's bad to hurt someone, it's bad. No matter what the reason. Period.

I believe the impetus for "hate crime" was to be able to get the feds involved if a local yokel court winked at bad stuff. But I guess it's gotten out of control like everything else.

Hey, some guy smacked me the other day. He says it was an accident, but he shoulda been watching where the fuck he was walking. Anyhow, since I'm an old, black, pregnant female cripple, the guy is facing 172 consecutive life sentences. And by God, the fact that I'm a well-adjusted transsexual lesbian gay ex-man thinger, he should get another 20 years.

It's only fair.

The world's first pregnant ex-man thinger.

Alert the media.

I thought we had that stalwart group, the ACLU, to ensure that EVERYONE'S rights are protected equally. Especially Nazis, the KKK, and illegal aliens.

Depends on the redhead. If it's Gekko, definitely.

If it's Heather Carolin, probably.

If it's Danny Bonaduce, probably not.
